Erin, the woman behind Feral Kin. I’m a birth + postpartum doula based in Harrogate, supporting families across Yorkshire.

I’ve always had a real passion for working with women, and I’m endlessly fascinated by birth — how it works, what helps it unfold, and how much the experience can change when a woman feels informed, supported and trusted to make her own decisions.

That’s a huge part of why I do this work.

In antenatal sessions, we get properly into it. How birth works, what helps it unfold, induction and interventions, coping tools, birth planning, your options, and what those first hours and weeks afterwards can actually look like. I want you going into birth understanding what’s happening and feeling prepared for the decisions you might have to make — not just hoping everything goes to plan.

If I’m at your birth, I’m there continuously through labour. I help protect the environment around you, help you understand what’s happening if things change, and remind you that you’re allowed to ask questions, take a minute and make the decision that feels right for you. I’m not there to tell you how to give birth. It’s your birth, not mine.

My postpartum work is very deliberately mother-centred. I’m not coming in to take over your baby while you crack on with everything else. I’m there to look after you. I might arrive with nourishing food, make you something warm to drink, prepare herbs for a healing bath, put a load of washing on, sit with you while you unpack your birth, or help you work out what would actually make today easier.

And I don’t have a particular kind of birth I need you to want. Home birth, hospital, epidural, water birth, planned caesarean — I care far more that you understood your choices and felt like the decisions belonged to you.

You don’t need another person telling you what’s best for you. You need good information, proper support and space to decide for yourself. That’s Feral Kin.
