About me
Hi, I am so happy you are here! My name is Agnes and I am the birth and traditional postpartum doula behind the business name Birth and Thresholds.
My own, complex journey into motherhood called me into providing emotional, practical, informational - and at times, spiritual doula care for people going through the phases of pregnancy, birth and the transformative postnatal period.
I grew up in Budapest, the beautiful and dynamic capital of Hungary and studied and worked in developmental psychology before moving to the UK in 2018. I stayed in a similar field, running community groups in Glasgow for people experiencing mental health difficulties. While I deeply enjoyed my job, life seemed to have an even more exciting plan for me.
It wasn’t until I experienced difficulties with my fertility and my own mental health struggles in pregnancy, followed by a birth that was way more medicalized than I had dreamt of - and on top of all this, a challenging postpartum period that I finally understood that my calling is to lovingly tend to women in their birthing years.
I have spent the last few years with immense inner work around my own experiences and studying about birth and its thresholds to feel ready to hold space for both the beauty and the challenges of becoming a mother all at the same time, supporting you on this tender, raw and ecstatic journey.
I now gratefully and humbly bring to you my offering of doula services as the culmination of my nearly decade-long expertise in supporting people at their most vulnerable and my own lived experiences of the deeply transformative power of becoming a mother.
I am constantly learning – and will be forever. Come as you are.
About doula care
I currently provide informational, practical, emotional support for pregnancy, birth and postpartum.
My main goal is to bring gentleness and dignity into your birthing year.
This is what it could look like for you:
Pregnancy:
I meet you and your birthing partner (if you have one) a previously arranged number of times during your pregnancy. This is to get to know each other better and to talk about your plans and dreams for birth and the fourth trimester.
It doesn’t matter if you are going for a home birth, a midwifery-led unit or hospital birth, if you want to birth spontaneously or are willing to accept any or all forms of intervention – I am here for you and we can prepare together.
We also work out the types of support that would be most suitable for your needs and discuss different strategies of coping with all the various forms birth and postpartum may take and he surprises they bring along.
It can be a good start to get to know each other in the second trimester, but you can get in touch any time you feel ready.
Birth:
I accompany you on your journey of bringing your baby Earthside, whatever form it may take. I am just as comfortable with a home birth as with a hospital birth, an induction, an epidural during labour or a C-section.
My role as a doula is to support you making decisions where you feel safe, witnessed and empowered. I have neither agenda, nor judgement over your birth – you will always have me in your corner.
I also want your partner to feel present, confident, elevated, and in their power throughout – to receive the Light of Life, in their own hands, if they prefer!
Postpartum:
I visit you in your home to care for you, listen to you and hold you – so that you have time to rest, recover physically and emotionally and bond with your beautiful newborn(s).
Imagine postnatal doula care as lots of healing foods and drinks, a good deal of warmth, nourishing touch and holding presence. This is your chance to renew your energies and arrive into your life as a new family.
I can bring you delicious and comforting homemade foods and snacks, healing teas, folk remedies, make you a restorative herbal bath or footbath, while talking about anything and everything you wish to, ending up with light and relaxing somatic work to ensure your holistic support. Your baby would be there with us for closeness and feeding, or we can always make arrangements so that you have a wee bit of time to arrive into your own body and new reality. It is all flexible, and with you in the heart of it.
Please note, that as I am not a medical professional or midwife, I am not qualified to give any form of medical advice or guidance. For these kind of enquiries, it is best to talk to an independent midwife, midwife, obstetrician or other healthcare professional.
